Something Cool We Saw Last Nite: Santigold at MoMA

The Museum of Modern Art's annual Party in the Garden, which is the most glamorous party that does not require an invitation in New York City for people under 35 (especially if you are unattached), was better than ever this year. Which is saying a little something, considering that Jay-Z showed up to play with the asshole Kanye West last year, following a mesmerizing acoustic performance by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs the year before that. This year, the party's box of joy had something to do with the guy in the bow tie up there, but was almost entirely the fault of one Santi White — better known as Santigold, formerly Santogold, or whatever. She has backup dancers so nonchalant as to be kind of dance-floor cult leaders, and so a man can find himself dancing like a backup dancer. She has a smile so joyful as to be looking in the eyes of each audience member separately at the same time, and so a man can find himself smiling at the same time that he is dancing like a fool. All of this is set to music that is a little bit insane, yes, but live, surrounded by hundreds of well-dressed people, in the most glamorous garden in New York City, it makes you wonder if they should have made a fancy gold invitation after all. More moments of joy, like the ones on the wall of Instagram photos at the museum, over at this here Twitter search.
